Wood Conservation and Restoration

The project “Wood CPR – Education and Training in Wood Conservation Restoration” is co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) through the Cohesion Policy 2007-2013, Operational Programme II – Empowering People for More Jobs and a Better Quality of Life.  This programme aims to strengthen social and economic development by improving employment and job opportunities, encouraging a high level of employment and more and better jobs.

The prolific extent of Malta’s material cultural heritage demands a specialized workforce to ensure that this is conserved, restored and maintained to standards established in international conventions to which Malta is signatory.  Such objects and structures are found in museums, palaces and churches as well as in private collections and in private historic residences.

Heritage Malta is currently leading this project with cooperation from a number of different local and international partners including MEPA.  This €500,000 project aims to improve education and skills in relation to material cultural heritage at large, and specifically in wood and furniture in the context of the European Qualifications Framework.

MEPA is represented in this project by the Integrated Heritage Management Unit which is also assisted by the International Projects Team of EU and Multilateral Affairs Unit.
