Registration of small combustion equipment

MEPA to register all boilers, generators and other fixed equipment which runs on fuel

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority hereby announces that it will be registering all boilers and generators within the Maltese Islands by 31st December 2010.

These registrations are required so as to ensure compliance with the transposition of the Air Quality Framework Directive and are a requirement of article 27 of the Ambient Air Quality Regulations, 2010 which have been published for consultation as Government Notice 961 of 2010.

MEPA is required to compile a register of any industrial combustion plants having a rated thermal input lower than 50 MWTH and which are not covered by the Waste Management (Incineration) Regulations, 2001.

Interested parties who are in the process of obtaining an environmental permit or GBR Registration or who already have been issued with any such permit/ registration need not resubmit the information.
