Activities / Filming Permits

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority is legally obliged to regulate all organised activities (including filming) in areas classed as Special Areas of Conservation, especially those forming part of the EU's Natura 2000 network. In addition, MEPA is the regulating Authority for all activities that may have a deleterious impact on Sites of Ecological Importance, Site of Special Scientific Interest, and other similarly protected areas. MEPA is also responsible, in a regulatory capacity, for the protection, preservation and conservation of Scheduled Monuments.

Any organised activity may be deemed to potentially have adverse impacts on a scheduled area, site or monument. It is therefore imperative that individuals wishing to hold such activities seek MEPA's advice by writing to the following e-mail address:

Should the activity necessitate the submission of a formal application, this may be found here .
Applications should be submitted to the following address:

Formal responses are normally issued within an average of three weeks. Application forms should be accompanied by details of the activity, including a site plan for the location of the activity.
