Category
This is the general typology of the scheduled feature. There are seven basic categories under which all scheduled sites,areas and buildings are classified.
Type
Each of the categories contains a number of typologies in which the scheduled feature may be grouped. The groups vary depending under which Category they fall.
Feature
Features vary greatly and usually give a one word description of the protected site. The same feature may form part of different types or categories.
Degree of Protection
The Degree of Protection varies depending under which category it falls. Grades 1, 2 and 3 are used for built structures, Class A, B and C are used for archaeological sites or areas while Level 1, 2 and 3 are used for Ecology or Geology. The higher the grade given, the higher the importance.
