Mobile Containers

Mobile containers

All mobile containers handling petrol must comply with the following requirements:

  1. The mobile container must retain residual vapours after the petrol is unloaded;
  2. The mobile container should be capable of accepting and retaining the return vapours when supplying petrol to service stations and terminals;
  3. Excluding releases through pressure valves, the vapours mentioned in paragraphs 1 and 2 should be retained in the mobile container until reloading takes place at a terminal. 



Road tankers retrofitted for bottom loading should be compliant with Annex IV of the Directive.

The operators of mobile road containers handling petrol to seek registration with MEPA.  Terminals are obliged to refuse to refuel non-registered tankers and operators of service stations are similarly obliged to refuse to buy petrol from non-registered tankers.  In order to be registered, tankers must be certified by an approved auditor as being compliant with the requirements for mobile road tankers above.
