No EIA required

If the proposed project falls under Category II of Schedule IA of the EIA regulations, the proposal is screened using a screening matrix according to Schedule IB of the EIA regulations and based on guidance on EIA screening published in 2001 by the European Commission.  If the outcome of the screening matrix indicates that the proposed development project is likely to leave clear and easily understood environmental impacts, then an EIA procedure is not necessary.  Should this be the case, the applicant is notified in writing (within 4 weeks from receipt of the PDS) of the decision taken by the Authority.  Within 30 days of this notification the applicant must then inform MEPA whether he or she would like to request an exemption from the EIA or otherwise.  If the former is chosen, the applicant must submit an exemption request and justification form within 30 days from receipt of letter.
