MEPA TO HOST HIGH LEVEL MEETING FOR EU ENVIRONMENT AGENCIES
MEPA TO HOST HIGH LEVEL MEETING FOR EU ENVIRONMENT AGENCIES
The heads of European Environment Agencies and senior officials from European Environment Agencies and the Directorate General for the Environment within the European Commission will gather in Malta for the 16th Meeting of the Network of Environment Agencies (EPA).
The Environment Protection Directorate within MEPA is currently chairing the network and will be hosting this high-level meeting. It is expected that the meeting will be attended by about 50 participants representing 27 agencies from 22 European countries.
In preparation for this meeting, Prof. Jacqueline McGlade, the Executive Director of the European Environment Agency stated that “the environment must be better integrated not only in our policies but also in the economy. The EPA network offers a unique platform to help formulate and disseminate a common narrative on greening the economy and ensuring the implementation of environmental legislation. I look forward to working together with the EPA network and its members during this meeting towards this objective.”
The EPA Network is an informal group bringing together the directors of environment protection agencies and similar bodies across Europe. The network exchanges views and experiences on issues of common interest to organisations involved in the practical day-to-day implementation of environmental policy.
The meeting will take place from the 28th to the 29th March 2011 at the Radisson Blu St.Julian’s Hotel. Participants will also be invited to a day visit to Gozo, a prehistoric tour of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra and a reception hosted by the Office of the Prime Minister at Auberge d’Italie in Valletta.
