The Enforcement Directorate within MEPA gives notice to all manufacturers
and/or importers of:
• Packaging and packaging waste
• batteries and accumulators
• electrical and electronic equipment
• vehicles into Malta
that they must register or renew their registration with MEPA by not later than 01 June 2012 until 3pm.
Producers and importers who will fail to register will be liable to prosecution, which could result in substantial fines as stipulated by law
Producers of packaging and packaging waste, batteries and accumulators are required to ensure that they either join a collective compliance scheme which will cover them as of 01 January 2012 till 31 December 2012 or otherwise provide evidence that they are self-compliant by providing a recycling certificate when registering as required by L.N. 277/ 2006, L.N. 55/200, L.N. 63/ 2007 and L.N. 99/2004.
