ENEMALTA APPLICATION FOR ARMIER BOATHOUSES TURNED DOWN

The Environment and Planning Commission (EPC) earlier this month refused to give planning permission for the construction of an electricity substation in the area known as ir- Ramla Tat- Torri, in Armier, limits of Mellieha.

The Commission cited that there is no sufficient justification for the proposed development of a substation in this particular site, which will take up further virgin land outside the development zone. Additionally, considering the sensitive nature of the area and in the absence of an approved Action Plan, the Commission said that the proposed development is premature and there were no valid reasons justifying its approval.

During the past month, Mepa’s enforcement directorate issued an enforcement notice on a beach house which was being built without a permit within the same area. The Authority has given the occupier a few days to remove the illegality from on government owned land.
