Over the past few weeks the Enforcement Direcorate within MEPA managed to close off a number of enforcement notices after land owners chose to remove the illegalities from on their land, a few hours before the Authority started carrying out its direct action operation.
At a site in Xghajra, a contravenor removed an illegally built large room and reservoir from within his field. Similarly in Gudja, in the area known as Tal-Gholjiet, three enforcement notices were closed as land owners demolished and removed illegal agricultural rooms, structures and parts of a farm.
In St Paul’s Bay, a property owner removed an illegally built porch in Triq Louis Mountbatten which was obstructing access to an adjacent garage.
In Ghaxaq, in an area known as Il-Maghqad, a contravenor removed over 1300 cubic metres of illegally dumped material from a rural area.
These landowners wisely sought the cheaper option than having to forfeit a bill, running in the thousands of euros to cover expenses incurred by the Authority to carry out a direct action operation.
