StatisticsThe Malta Environment & Planning Authority (MEPA) determined 639 applications in August and received 660 new applications. The net pending caseload at the end of the month was 4,545.

During August the Authority processed 78 notifications of development, which, according to the Development Notification Order 2001, do not require a formal application.

During August 2006, 83 Stop and Enforcement notices were issued, 52 in Malta and 31 in Gozo.

In the same month 72 enforcement cases were closed, 41 in Malta and 31 in Gozo. 45 enforcement cases were sanctioned by the issue of a sanctionable permit. Another 20 cases were resolved since owners decided to remove illegal development and comply with enforcement notice. During August, 6 enforcement cases were withdrawn by Mepa. Another enforcement case was also closed following payment due for direct action carried out in previous years.

21 cases received at Complaints Office were resolved without the need of enforcement action, since owners complied with instructions given by MEPA Enforcement Officers.
