statisticsDuring the month of December, the Malta Environment & Planning Authority (MEPA) decided 326 applications and received 684 new applications. The net pending caseload at the end of the month was 4,901.

Last month, the Authority processed 52 notifications of development, which, according to the Development Notification Order 2007, do not require a formal application.

During the same month, 40 Stop and Enforcement notices were issued, 28 in Malta and 12 in Gozo. The enforcement section within MEPA closed 30 cases, 27 in Malta and 3 in Gozo. 18 other enforcement cases were sanctioned by a planning permit while another 9 cases were resolved by the owners’ decision to remove their illegal development prior to commencement of formal enforcement proceedings.

The Authority also received 148 calls on its 24 hour Emergency Service Number 2069 9595. Of these 69 were related to Construction Site Management issues, 19 for Littering issues, 7 Pollution cases, 3 Nature Protection and 50 to illegal development. 

128 waste carrier permits were also issued during the month by the Authority.
