The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) Board approved the full development permission for the construction of a new multi-purpose complex at the MaltaInternational Airport in Luqa.
The project comprises the development of 7 levels of commercial, retail and office space and 2 levels of underground parking. The site, located adjacent to the fuel station and a catering facility fronting Zurrieq Road, is within the confined boundary of the approved master plan for the area.
The Master Plan includes an overall strategy for the area, as identified in the South Malta Local Plan. The plan stipulates that the entire area should maintain high environmental standards in terms of design and landscaping, ensure a high level of public accessibility, minimise the impact on the traffic on the surrounding road network, and portray the image of Malta International Airport as a centre for business conferencing, and as a regional aviation hub.
