The project “Harmonization and Implementation of Directive on Biocidal Products” was financed from the Pre-accession Financial Assistance National Programme for Turkey, 2004. This programme aims to prepare the Turkish administration to face the challenges posed by EU accession.
The aim of this project was to advice and assist Turkey on biocides legislation, enforcement, market analysis, organisation and institution building, training in administration procedures and basic technical training of administrators.
The Austrian Federal Environment Agency was leading a consortium of partners from 9 Member States including Malta. MEPA has a status of a Mandated Body and thus it may provide expertise to public entities in other EU Member States or Candidate Countries. In fact an officer from the EU & Multilateral Affairs Unit within MEPA traveled to Turkey in May 2007 on a short-term expert mission to deliver training on risk communication to the Turkish administration.
Within MEPA, this initiative was coordinated by the EU and Multilateral Affairs Unit. More information about the project can be found on the project’s website.
