The Information Resources Unit encompases a GI function which is specialised in high-end information systems and applications with remits including geographical information systems thematic data creation and analysis, 3D modelling, interpolation and spatio-statistical analysis, remote-sensing and analysis.
IRU is responsible for all GI datacycle for EPD and Policy Coordination and parts of the Planning Directorate
Target: To ensure compliance with GI rules and also with INSPIRE as regards to thematic datasets
MEPA’s Role: IRU handles all the GI datasets and has trained staff at MSc and PhD level to sustain this role.
IRU serves as a consultant and data sourcing to the Directorates as well as to external agencies/individuals.
